About this project
DataCentersExposed is an independent, donation-funded transparency platform for the AI infrastructure buildout happening across the United States.
We exist because the people most affected by data centers — residents who pay higher utility bills, counties that hand out billion-dollar tax abatements, and aquifers that lose millions of gallons a day — have no consolidated way to see what's actually being built, who's behind it, and what it costs them.
Existing trackers stop at the map. We do the joins: shell-LLC chains to real corporate parents, public subsidy disclosures to specific facilities, EPA violations to the substation that powers the building, local hearings to the council members who voted yes. Every datum links to its public-record source.
What we don't do
- We don't take advertising.
- We don't take corporate sponsorship.
- We don't publish unverified community submissions until a human reviews them.
- We don't paywall anything — the API and bulk downloads are free under CC BY 4.0.
Funding
One person built this. Hosting, compute, and OCR cost money. If the site helped you, your town, or your reporting, please donate.
